Where is the love?

The U.S. government is asking for trouble.

They repaired the levees in New Orleans to pre-Katrina levels, but have essentially stopped work on improving them.

From the New York Times.

The Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Gen Strock says, "It takes time to think through what needs to be done. It takes time to make things happen. You don’t move 5.5 million cubic yards of earth overnight." This is true.

However, the problem is that this kind of statement leads to the Travelers Insurance company's decision to CANCEL all of its commercial insurance policies in many of the hardest-hit parishes on Louisiana.

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Oh, also from the first article cited: "Congress has ordered the Army Corps to upgrade the city’s hurricane protection system to standards first authorized in 1965 — goals that were not reached because of a series of compromises and mistakes, the corps has admitted."

Emphasis most certainly mine.
