Back to the FISA court!
Well, the days of warrantless wiretapping are coming to an end. The Bush administration has decided to return to the rule of law and allow the FISA court to oversee domestic wiretapping and surveillance. Is this a step in the right direction towards the restoration of democracy, or does it have something to do with Gonzales testifying today to the Justice Department about this very issue?

Actually, it's not quite that simple.
Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) claims that this new agreement signals the likelihood that the FISA court will offer a simple blanket approval, and not approval on a case-by-case basis; she wants this investigated further.
And, in a USA Today editorial (sadly uncredited on the story), we are reminded that the government really has had the right to silently and warrantlessly monitor whoever they damn well please since the 1970's.
