The State of the Union, preliminary
Bush will deliver his first State of the Union address to a Democrat-controlled Congress tomorrow night. A recent WashPost/ABCNews poll shows Bush's numbers are deep in the toilet. America just doesn't feel that he is doing a good job... yet, he will insist on "staying the course," not just in the war, but in all policy aspects. Even though his speech to the American people on the "surge" fell on deaf ears, Bush thinks he will win people over in the SotU address.
Bush is becoming more dangerous by the day, if only because he refuses to acknowledge that he actually has to try to work with the Democrats. Signing statements and judge/lawyer replacements and firing nay-sayers have insulated him for the past six years. America must stand up, with one voice, and remind Bush both that he serves at OUR discretion, and that we disagree with his desire to deny the will of the people.
A final note on the State of the Union: Sen. James Webb (D-VA), whose son is serving in Iraq and who had 'words' with Bush last month regarding it, will be giving the Democratic response to Bush. It will be very curious to see how many of the "liberal media" outlets will actually air this response, as opposed to their actions after Bush's "surge" speech: cut back to network programming once the main speech is over.
