Bush is against the troops!
From his speech before the National Cattlemen's Beef Association:
"I have made it clear for weeks, if either version comes to my desk, I'm going to veto it. It is also clear from the strong opposition in both houses that my veto would be sustained. Yet Congress continues to pursue these bills, and as they do, the clock is ticking for our troops in the field. Funding for our forces in Iraq will begin to run out in mid-April. Members of Congress need to stop making political statements, and start providing vital funds for our troops. They need to get that bill to my desk so I can sign it into law.
"Now, some of them believe that by delaying funding for our troops, they can force me to accept restrictions on our commanders that I believe would make withdrawal and defeat more likely. That's not going to happen. If Congress fails to pass a bill to fund our troops on the front lines, the American people will know who to hold responsible."
We know who to hold responsible - YOU, for not listening to the overwhelming will of the American people, both in the context of the war and as it relates to the opinions of those whom we ELECTED to represent us!
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent a letter to Bush yesterday. In addition, (link not available; visit ThinkProgress) Pelosi has thrown the gauntlet down right back at Bush: "Calm down with the threats. There is a new Congress in town. We respect your constitutional role; we want you to respect ours. This war must end. The American people have lost faith in the President’s conduct of the war. Let’s see how we can work together. This war is diminishing the strength of our military, not honoring our commitment to our veterans, and not holding the Iraqi government accountable."
Bush has no interest in defending the Constitution, acknowledging the separation of powers, or holding anyone that doesn't have a "D" after his name accountable for anything.
Oh, and Joe LIEberman is a disgrace... but we already knew that, didn't we?
