More reasons to leave Iraq!
Let's see...
Two Americans, including one soldier, were killed in a rocket attack within the Green Zone. Interestingly, US Charge d'Affairs Daniel Speckhard comments, "It is with a profound sense of sadness and regret that we announce the loss of a U.S. Government contractor as the result of a rocket attack on the International Zone in Baghdad, Iraq." What about that brave United States soldier who also died, likely making 10-20% of what that contractor was making? He doesn't count because he's a soldier? Disgusting.
In fact, the Washington Post reports that rocket and mortar attacks within the Green Zone are on the rise! I thought the Green Zone was supposed to be safe, and that the "surge" was supposed to make Baghdad safer. What happened?
Twenty-five Iraqis died in multiple car-bomb attacks just north of Baghdad. The surge is working, right? Just give it time, right?
Apparently, the surge is really just about collecting and imprisoning people, regardless of their actual guilt. Iraqi prisons are being filled to 900% of capacity just to handle the overflow, and there is "fast detention and very slow release, especially for those who are not guilty." Disgraceful.
