Another Bushie bites the dust!

This morning, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales publicly announced his resignation, which he had informed the Chimp-in-Chief of by phone (coward) on Friday and by letter on Sunday. Not surprisingly, he won't tell us why. Marty Kaplan at HuffPo has a pretty good idea, though.

George Bush provides his comments. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ari Fleischer can only blame... Congress(!!!)... for Gonzo's faults. Fake News' Brit Hume doesn't have to carry Gonzo's jockstrap anymore. Funny how the same right-wing hack media that kneeled before the AG in the past are kicking him in the ass on his way out.

House Judiciary Chairman Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and Rep. Lousie Slaughter give us their thoughts. The AP provides a compilation of other Congresspeople's comments.

Replacing Fredo as interim AG is current solicitor general Paul Clement. The folks at firedoglake give us some background on him. The prime candidate to replace Gonzo is current DHS head(case) Michael Chertoff, even though he was just about as incompetent at his job as Brownie was at FEMA. I suspect that Chertoff's trip through the Senate will not be a smooth ride, so knowing about Clement is important - he may become the de facto AG if Bush and the Senate cannot agree on a replacement in the next 16 months. Loyal Bushie Clay Johnson - Bush's prep school roommate and a long-time aide - is slated to take Chertoff's job. Pathetic.
