BlackWater Shootings, furthur damaging U.S relations with Iraqi government
The American security contracting firm Black Water has been involved with at least 6 violent incidents that left 21 Iraqis dead. The Iraqi government has frequently complained to the US about Backwater's tactics, but received no response until 11 Iraqi civilians were unjustifiably shot last weekend, The Washington Post reports. Secratary of State Condi Rice was sent to Iraq to cool things off with Prime Minister Maliki, but the shootings were not a topic and they kept their distance from each other, the N.Y Times reported The Iraqi government has pledged to file criminal charges against Blackwater as a result of the killings., The NY Times reported on Sunday. CNN interviews Iraqi civilians who survived the BlackWater attacks and covers the current issues at hand, in decent fashion.
In addition to their troubles in Iraq, Blackwater may face Federal charges in America regarding their role in gun smuggling to terrorists in Iraq!
This can only harm Iraq in the long run. The government is basically forced to keep Black Water in Iraq because of the vast amount of power they have established regarding the security situation in Iraq. BlackWater gets millions and millions worth of contracts from the Bush crime regime and the Iraq government is basically held hostage with BlackWater. The Times points out the Iraqi government is not ready to ban Blackwater from their country because it might create a major security problemin Bagdhad. It is a no win situation for the Iraqi govenment who has to depend on an American company that has murdered Iraqi civilians as their main security force! I suppose the Iraqi government better learn to deal with BlackWater or expect a coup d'état and a new Sunni dictaorhip replacing the Shite government courtesy of their liberators, US!!!
