Expert advisers to the government who receive money from a drug or device maker would be barred for the first time from voting on whether to approve that company’s products under new rules announced Wednesday for the F.D.A.’s powerful advisory committees.

Indeed, such doctors who receive more than $50,000 from a company or a competitor whose product is being discussed would no longer be allowed to serve on the committees, though those who receive less than that amount in the prior year can join a committee and participate in its discussions.

Hello!!!! This is an obvious law that should have been in place a long time ago, before big business took over the FDA.

What is even sadder is who is against this common sense legislation......

“There are going to be more good people who can’t get over the hurdles, and I don’t think that’s a good thing,” said Jack Calfee, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

Iraq War: polling hits new low

ABC/Washing Post poll reveals more Americans than ever are against the Iraqi War. 64% now are saying the war was not worth fighting and 56% approve of the timetables for withdrawal. Bush continues to ignore the American people. Him vetoing the new bill that passed in congress will prove once more Bush does not support the troops npr the views of the American people.
We now see a clear majority in favor of setting goals to leave Iraq, and a large majority agreeing that the Iraqi war was not worth the lives and money spent.

Limbaugh attacks Edwards because a webiste erroneously reported Edwards was dropping out of the campaign after his wife's medical conditions have worsened. Limbaugh believes the error by the Politico website was done on purpose to jumpstart Edward's campaign and get press , so Edwards could get sympathy for his wife. Limbaugh is a filthy phig.

The Pew Research group conducted their latest poll on party affiliation of the public and found that Republican allegiance has dropped to 35% from 43% in 2002, when both parties had a statistical tie in this Pew Poll. Democrats on the other hand have risen to 50% party affiliation by those polled in this poll. More details on this study from Pew.

Bruce Bartlett a conservative writer said that this poll indicates "it's clear we have come to an end of a Republican conservative era"

That is music to my ears! Let's only hope this trend continues in 2008 and Guilliani gets nowhere near the White House!

What makes the neo-cons really interesting is their main influence and inspiration, the philosopher Leo Straus. Straus main belief was that the world shuold be run by a few "philiospophers" in a totalitarian like way, all the while using religion and petty politics as distractions to keep the population in line. Straus believed very few "enlightened" individuals need to know exactly what is going on in the world. The Executive Intelligence Review wrote about the connection between the Neo-Cons and Leon Straus, several years ago.

The British government demanded "the immediate and safe return of our people and equipment."

How's Iraq doing?

Whenever you hear about the numbers of Iraqi soldiers and security forces available, cut that number by around half. According to the ArmyTimes, only one-half to two-thirds of Iraqi soldiers are actually available to serve - if they even exist! "Ghost soldiers" seem to spring up more and more, as a way for corporeal soldiers to scheme more money for their forces.

What has our military's response to downed helicopters been? If you think they're sending troops into the area to secure it, and prevent further attacks against US aircraft - you'd be a Republican, and most definitely WRONG. The actual response has been to not allow US aircraft to fly over those areas.

The House Armed Services Committee voted, 59-0, in favor of the Wounded Warrior Assistance Act of 2007, a bill designed to begin to right the wrongs that are happening, not just in Walter Reed, but at VA hospitals across the country. In the meantime, the Senate Judiciary Committee, taking a brief respite from the US attorney scandal, has asked federal investigators to be a little more aggressive in prosecuting alleged contractor fraud in Iraq.

Finally, in a BBC story, the world seems to largely be ignoring the humanitarian issues surrounding the United States' illegal occupation of Iraq.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has raised concerns over the resignation of Los Angeles' US Attorney Debra Yang. Yang resigned one month or so before the eight firings in question (which places her resignation right in time with the questionable phone calls that David Iglesias received). The House Judiciary Committee is ready to go to war with the Bushies, issuing subpoenas for Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, and William Kelley. This could present a Constitutional crisis.

Tony Snow claims that the White House's denial of sworn testimony by their aides is "executive privilege." Ironic, isn't it, that he argued that White House aides should certainly be forced to testify - in 1998, when it was President Clinton's aides facing a potential subpoena!

Another Republican spoke his mind about this situation. Former Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA), a former US Attorney (under Reagan) himself, said, on CNN, "[T]he Judiciary Committees in both the House and the Senate have a pretty clear right to demand information that relates to the propriety of the running of the Department of Justice."
