A.P does a good job reporting Rudy's failure on 9-11 regarding the Fire Department and the lives Rudy cost due to his incompetence. Kudos to AP for actually reporting. This story must continue to be pushed onto the television for the world to understand the myth that is Rudy.......
Rudy caught in a LIE!!!!
Giuliani, testifying last year under oath before a Bronx grand jury investigating Mr. Kerik, said he had no memory of the briefing(regarding Kerik's ties to the mob), but he did not dispute that it had taken place, according to a transcript of his testimony.
This contradicts with his testimony in 2000, where he admitted he was briefed on Kerik's ties to a company eith mob connections.
The NY Times caught this, let us see if the broadcast journalists do their job or if this story vanishes. Will Rudy be held accountable for his lies?

Follow-up: What $140,000 buys
If you recall, Mitchell Wade had given disgraced Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham a bribe of $140,000 as payback for getting some government contracts. We revealed a while ago that this money was paid from Dick Cheney's office to Wade's company, MZM, for "office furniture."
LIE!
That money was paid for MZM to be the "mail screener" for Bush's office, to "protect against an anthrax attack," as Talking Points Memo reports.

Industry shows no regard for life
The Western Business Roundtable has determined that declaring the polar bear an endangered species will threaten businesses in ALL FIFTY STATES.
Gee, I wonder why? Could it be that the polar bear's endangerment is being exacerbated by global warming, which is predominantly exacerbated by horrendous business practices that laissez-faire, free-market economic principles espoused by administrations for the last 27 years have enabled, if not encouraged?
This is shameful, and just another reason why governments need to regulate businesses MORE, not less.

Extra in Attorneygate: Sampson breaks down!
SCHUMER: Do you still think David Iglesias deserved to be fired?
SAMPSON: Senator, looking back on all of this, I wish that we could do it over again.
SCHUMER: So you’re saying you think he shouldn’t have been fired?
SAMPSON: Senator, I don’t know. That was a decision that was made. In hindsight, in hindsight, I wish the Department hadn’t gone down this road at all, and I regret my role in it, and that’s one of the reasons I resigned.
SCHUMER: So if the choice were up to you, just thinking back on that fateful December 7, would you now — knowing what you know now — have put David Iglesias on a list, choice solely up to you if he should be fired?
SAMPSON: In hindsight, sitting here today –
SCHUMER: Correct.
SAMPSON: I would not.

Saudis unhappy with Bush!
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has called the US occupation of Iraq "illegal"!!!
His words: “In the beloved Iraq, the bloodshed is continuing under an illegal foreign occupation and detestable sectarianism. The blame should fall on us, the leaders of the Arab nation, with our ongoing differences, our refusal to walk the path of unity. All that has made the nation lose its confidence in us.”

Today in Attorneygate!
Karl Rove did play a role in the firings/hirings, after all... meaning that Kyle Sampson LIED to Congress last month when he wrote, "The Department is not aware of Karl Rove playing any role in the decision to appoint [Karl Rove's former aide Timothy] Griffin." An e-mail found in a document dump written by Sampson to Christopher Oprison, associate counsel to the President, said that Griffin's appointment was "important to Harriet, Karl, etc."
Gonzales also LIED to Congress when he claimed to have played no role in the attorney firings, according to Sampson's testimony today. Gone-zo was present at "at least five" discussions regarding the firings.
Sampson also admitted to calling Dan Dzwilewski, the head of the FBI office in San Diego, to complain about Dzwilewski's comments regarding Carol Lam's removal, inquiring as to why an FBI officer would comment on such a removal. Apparently, Dzwilewski felt that her ouster would hurt the prosecution of ongoing cases. (The White House cannot remove an attorney if that removal would hinder such prosecutions.) During this section of testimony, Sen. Dianne Feinstein questions Sampson on the "Lam was bad on immigration" issue, debunking it with the aforementioned letter from US Customs and Border Protection.
Sampson also refused to tell Congress whether or not he had discussed firing Patrick Fitzgerald with Karl Rove. You'd think, had no such conversation taken place, that Sampson would have no problem denying such conversations.
It is time for Alberto Gonzales and Karl Rove, at minimum, to testify under oath regarding this scandal. The White House is getting impatient with Gonzales (he's not scheduled to testify until April 17th) because the perpetuation of this scandal only serves to hurt the Bushies in the court of public opinion. Sixty percent of Americans approve of Congress holding these hearings - and over half of those Americans want to see more hearings!
Senate conservatives also attempted a procedural move to shut down the hearings in the midst of Sampson's testimony; this ploy didn't work for very long.
Two lawyers from NYU's law school explain the myth of voter fraud in an op-ed in the Washington Post.
Finally, the National Review is actually calling for Gonzales to resign! This, of course, has not stopped the Oxycontin freak from claiming that it's the "white liberal racists" that want to oust Gonzales.

The previous two days in Attorneygate
Gone-zo made a few appearances early this week. First, in Denver, reporters were not allowed to ask questions. They were allowed to ask questions on Tuesday, when Al-B-Gone appeared in Chicago at a prosecutor's conference hosted by Patrick Fitzgerald; he ran from the questions within two minutes, after being asked how he gave Mr. Fitzgerald a "subpar" rating. At this conference, US attorneys told Alberto that they felt as if their jobs were threatened and that they are considered unimportant by the DoJ in regards to setting legal policy.
Who is Monica Goodling, Fredo's counsel at DoJ? McClatchy looks into her background... and guess where she got her law degree from? If you guessed Pat Robertson's Regent University, good job! Anyway, FBI Director Mueller has been testifying at the hearings, and he considers it unprecedented that a DoJ employee would plead the Fifth Amendment in order to avoid having her testimony incriminate herself. It may be time for Alberto to show up and defend himself in front of the Judiciary Committee.
Mueller also debunks DoJ allegations that some attorneys were removed for failure to prosecute voter fraud.
Sen. Pete Domenici's (R-NM) chief of staff sent a thank-you note addressed to Karl "MC" Rove and two other White House officials subsequent to the removal of US Attorney David Iglesias. It's not hard to see the two connected.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) sent a letter to former US Attorney Carol Lam which may have violated some Congressional ethics rules. In this letter, Issa inquired as to why a case against an alleged "known alien smuggler" was dropped. Issa has had a history of challenging Lam on immigration issues, even though US Customs and Border Protection praised her in a letter they sent her after her departure.
Today in the scandal coming shortly.

WH goes txt msg on us?
Apparently, it took a major scandal happening to their own party for the geniuses at the White House to realize that illegal business conducted over e-mail is not very secure... so they now plan on text-messaging each other. As one clearly naive aide said, "We just got a bit lazy. We knew E-mails could be subpoenaed. We saw that with the Clintons, but I don't think anybody saw that we were doing anything wrong." DUH.
E-mails regarding the people's business are supposed to be handled through official government addresses. Using RNC accounts (as the Bushies were doing) makes it far harder for them to declare any sort of "executive privilege" that would shield those e-mails as well.
Apparently, another federal agency had tried to use such methods of communication, and was forbidden from doing so by powers inside that agency due to "security concerns."

Bush is against the troops!
From his speech before the National Cattlemen's Beef Association:
"I have made it clear for weeks, if either version comes to my desk, I'm going to veto it. It is also clear from the strong opposition in both houses that my veto would be sustained. Yet Congress continues to pursue these bills, and as they do, the clock is ticking for our troops in the field. Funding for our forces in Iraq will begin to run out in mid-April. Members of Congress need to stop making political statements, and start providing vital funds for our troops. They need to get that bill to my desk so I can sign it into law.
"Now, some of them believe that by delaying funding for our troops, they can force me to accept restrictions on our commanders that I believe would make withdrawal and defeat more likely. That's not going to happen. If Congress fails to pass a bill to fund our troops on the front lines, the American people will know who to hold responsible."
We know who to hold responsible - YOU, for not listening to the overwhelming will of the American people, both in the context of the war and as it relates to the opinions of those whom we ELECTED to represent us!
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent a letter to Bush yesterday. In addition, (link not available; visit ThinkProgress) Pelosi has thrown the gauntlet down right back at Bush: "Calm down with the threats. There is a new Congress in town. We respect your constitutional role; we want you to respect ours. This war must end. The American people have lost faith in the President’s conduct of the war. Let’s see how we can work together. This war is diminishing the strength of our military, not honoring our commitment to our veterans, and not holding the Iraqi government accountable."
Bush has no interest in defending the Constitution, acknowledging the separation of powers, or holding anyone that doesn't have a "D" after his name accountable for anything.
Oh, and Joe LIEberman is a disgrace... but we already knew that, didn't we?
Be back with attorney scandal doings in an hour or so.

Highlights, with my emphasis and commentary:
"Iraq is ripped by a low grade civil war which has worsened to catastrophic levels with as many as 3000 citizens murdered per month. The population is in despair. Life in many of the urban areas is now desperate. A handful of foreign fighters (500+) --- and a couple of thousand Al Qaeda operatives incite open factional struggle through suicide bombings which target Shia holy places and innocent civilians. Thousands of attacks target US Military Forces (2900 IED’s) a month---primarily stand off attacks with IED’s, rockets, mortars, snipers, and mines from both Shia (EFP attacks are a primary casualty producer) ---and Sunni (85% of all attacks---80% of US deaths—16% of Iraqi population.)" Does Bush still want to deny that Iraq has become a civil war?
"The Maliki government has little credibility among the Shia populations from which it emerged. It is despised by the Sunni as a Persian surrogate. It is believed untrustworthy and incompetent by the Kurds." al-Maliki is doing a heck of a job, eh, George?
"There is no function of government that operates effectively across the nation--- not health care, not justice, not education, not transportation, not labor and commerce, not electricity, not oil production. There is no province in the country in which the government has dominance... No Iraqi government official, coalition soldier, diplomat, reporter, foreign NGO, nor contractor can walk the streets of Baghdad, nor Mosul, nor Kirkuk, nor Basra, nor Tikrit, nor Najaf, nor Ramadi---without heavily armed protection." Take THAT, McCain!
"The police force is feared as a Shia militia in uniform which is responsible for thousands of extra-judicial killings... The population is terrorized by rampant criminal gangs involved in kidnapping, extortion, robbery, rape, [and] massive stealing of public property ---such as electrical lines, oil production material, government transportation, etc." Again, hey... civil war!
"The Iraqi Army is too small [and] very badly equipped (inadequate light armor, junk Soviet small arms, no artillery, no helicopters to speak of, currently no actual or planned ground attack aircraft of significance, no significant air transport assets, no national military logistics system, no national military medical system, etc.). The Iraqi Army is also unduly dominated by the Shia, and in many battalions lacks discipline. There is no legal authority to punish Iraqi soldiers or police who desert their comrades. (The desertion/AWOL numbers frequently leave Iraqi Army battalions at 50% strength or less.)"
"US domestic support for the war in Iraq has evaporated and will not return. The great majority of the country thinks the war was a mistake. The US Congress now has a central focus on constraining the Administration use of military power in Iraq ---and potentially Iran. The losses of US Army, Marine, and Special Operations Force casualties in Iraq now exceed 27,000 killed and wounded... The war costs $9 Billion per month. Stateside US Army and Marine Corps readiness ratings are starting to unravel. Ground combat equipment is shot in both the active and reserve components. Army active and reserve component recruiting has now encountered serious quality and number problems. In many cases we are forced to use US contractors to substitute for required military functions... Waivers in US Army recruiting standards for: moral turpitude, drug use, medical issues, criminal justice records, and non-high school graduation have gone up significantly... There is no longer a national or a theater US Army strategic reserve. (Fortunately, powerful US Naval, Air Force, and nuclear capabilities command huge deterrence credibility.)" So... which party has supported the troops? Is it the Bush cabal... or those who have stood behind John Murtha's proposals?
"The current deployment requirement of 20+ brigades to Iraq and 2+ brigades in Afghanistan is not sustainable."
"Our allies are leaving, includ[ing] the courageous and well equipped Brits—by January 2008 we will be largely on our own." - We'll be going it alone soon!
"In summary, the US Armed Forces are in a position of strategic peril. A disaster in Iraq will in all likelihood result in a widened regional struggle which will endanger America’s strategic interests (oil) in the Middle East for a generation. We will also produce another generation of soldiers who lack confidence in their American politicians, the media, and their own senior military leadership."
In summary:
"We have very little time left. This President will have the remainder of his months in office beleaguered by his political opponents to the war. The [D]emocratic control of Congress and its vocal opposition can actually provide a helpful framework within which our... new Ambassador Ryan Crocker can maneuver the Maliki administration to understand their diminishing options. It is very unlikely that the US political opposition can constitutionally force the President into retreat. However, our next President will only have 12 months or less to get Iraq straight before he/she is forced to pull the plug. Therefore, our planning horizons should assume that there are less than 36 months remaining of substantial US troop presence in Iraq."
More Iraq to come, plus other information. Interesting things going on in the attorney scandal as well!

More reasons to leave Iraq!
Let's see...
Two Americans, including one soldier, were killed in a rocket attack within the Green Zone. Interestingly, US Charge d'Affairs Daniel Speckhard comments, "It is with a profound sense of sadness and regret that we announce the loss of a U.S. Government contractor as the result of a rocket attack on the International Zone in Baghdad, Iraq." What about that brave United States soldier who also died, likely making 10-20% of what that contractor was making? He doesn't count because he's a soldier? Disgusting.
In fact, the Washington Post reports that rocket and mortar attacks within the Green Zone are on the rise! I thought the Green Zone was supposed to be safe, and that the "surge" was supposed to make Baghdad safer. What happened?
Twenty-five Iraqis died in multiple car-bomb attacks just north of Baghdad. The surge is working, right? Just give it time, right?
Apparently, the surge is really just about collecting and imprisoning people, regardless of their actual guilt. Iraqi prisons are being filled to 900% of capacity just to handle the overflow, and there is "fast detention and very slow release, especially for those who are not guilty." Disgraceful.
More on Iraq to come; keep refreshing that blog page!

McCain's insane!
Maybe Bush's presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004 were right - perhaps John McCain has gone insane, after all. On Monday, as a guest on Bill Bennett's radio show, he claimed that "[t]here are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today!" Yeah, why don't you go take a stroll, Senator, and let us know how safe it actually is.
The next day, McCain goes on CNN's The Situation Room, where Wolf Blitzer challenged him to defend those statements. McCain replies by telling Blitzer that he "ought to catch up on things... you are giving the old line of three months ago," pointing out that Gen. Petraeus travels in an "unarmed humvee" As live-in-Baghdad CNN reporter Michael Ware points out immediately after Blitzer aired the McCain comment, McCain couldn't be more wrong.
CNN gives McCain one more chance - Wednesday morning, speaking to John Roberts - to correct himself. Instead of admitting he said something that has been proven wrong (see Barry McCaffrey's report, discussed more in a coming post), he claims he never said what he said.
Is he insane... or just stupid? Sen. McCain, you may have been able to pull off such double-talk 100 years ago, when we were only getting our news through newspapers; in the age of on-demand video, the record shows you either LIED or said something that you had no proof of.
John McCain has about as much right to use the phrase "Straight Talk Express" as FOX News has to use "Fair and Balanced" or "We Report, You Decide." A true straight-talker would admit when he is wrong!

Who wants Gone-zo to go?
Nearly everyone!
Dianne Feinstein. Republicans like Chuck Hagel, Gordon Smith, John Sununu, and Norm Coleman. Right-wing bloggers have even jumped on the bandwagon. Shit, even Bill Kristol thinks it's time for Gonzo to 'fess up! Thirty-nine percent of Americans think he should resign (31% say no, 30% undecided), according to Rasmussen.
Everyone, that is... except for the Man-child in Chief and his administration!
Bob Novak points out in his column today that the numbers of those who stand with Bush is dwindling rapidly, due to the incompetence of this administration.
This administration is heading for some serious trouble, and even the Republicans are finding it hard to stand in the way of Democratic inquiry into its illicit/unconstitutional dealings.

Rick Santorum goes Hollywood?
Apparently, former Sen. Rick Santorum has decided to be the right-wing's answer to such "leftists" as Michael Moore and Al Gore. He's working on not one, but two documentaries!
The first will show the "links between radical Islam and radical leftists," while the second is aimed more at "changing the culture of the United States." That second phrase is really eerie to me, especially after seeing the "Jesus Camp" documentary last night.
To Mr. Santorum, and all you other freaks who espouse such views: if you don't like the freedoms that America offers, I present you with two options. Either don't exercise those freedoms yourself (and shut the hell up when others do), or GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY. If you cannot accept life in the land of the free, start your own damn country, or go to a country that has policies that agree with your "cultural ideology." In a deep, deep irony, most of those countries are run by Muslim fundamentalists.

A military recruiter flips out
This has to be one of the most insane things I have ever read. (N.B.: read from the bottom up)
Recently, a man was contacted by a United States military recruiter after posting his resume on CareerBuilder. He subsequently (and cheekily, I must add) lets the recruiter know that he is gay.
Apparently, this bit of information was just a little too much for this recruiter to handle, touching off a days-long e-mail war, with the recruiter taking the lowest of low roads available.
Especially interesting to note is the total disregard for any sort of grammar on the part of the recruiter once she starts typing in all-caps. It should be clear that this military is just slightly broken on the recruitment end, as this woman has NO IDEA how to be a public servant.

Katie Couric: Officially a right-wing hack
On 60 minutes, Couric, while interviewing the Edwards, decided to take the Limbaugh route of questioning their reasons for staying in the race. This seems to be the new line of attack on Edwards. The media has already destroyed Clinton and Obama, Edwards is now the next victim of the complicit right-wing media. Coulter started the Edwards attack, and now Limbaugh and Katie Couric are attacking Edwards by using his wife's cancer as a means of attack.
Gone little-noticed in all of this is the fact that Edwards specifically said, in that same interview, that it would be WRONG to vote for any man out of sympathy for his/his family's life circumstances.

BIG BROTHER VISITED AT RNC 2004 CONVENTION
The NYPD infiltrated protest groups at the 2004 RNC convention in NYC. This is unreal. Our tax dollars were spent to have police officers , pose as protesters and open files on members of protest groups. This is Anti-American.
Funny if you scroll down, to a post from Saturday I linked a compilation of what what said at the RNC in 2004 (from U-tube), mainly 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11.
As that was going on inside, outside freedom of speech was being taken away from the people!
