More Tolerance: In a new CNN poll, 79% of Americans believe gays should be allowed to serve in the military, 57% believe gay couples should be allowed to adopt children (take that, Savage Weiner), and 51% are in favor of some legal recognition of gay couples (whether marriage or civil unions). Any numbers showing "gay marriage" in disfavor has to be taken with a grain of salt: marriage is viewed by many as a religious institution whose name was co-opted by legal institutions to fulfill similar ends. The religious context of marriage gets people - rightly - in an uproar over gay marriage as a separation of church and state issue.

Caught! But Don't Worry: It's pretty much official - the White House clearly played a substantial role in the US Attorney firing scandal. However, the guy in charge of the investigation - Solicitor General Paul Clement - is also supporting the Bush administration's withholding of documents related to the case. So... the investigator finds guilt, but tells the White House that it's OK to cover it up! WE ARE LOSING OUR COUNTRY!!!

How Not To Hire Americans

With all this discussion of the dead-in-the-water Immigration Bill, I noticed this little item from an immigration watchdog group. A law firm in Pittsburgh, PA is teaching corporations how to legally not hire Americans!

With or without the immigration bill, this will still continue, as it apparently has become an industry for free-market activist lawyers to run seminars on hiring cheap labor from outside of America!

Cons will still swallow the shit their ideology espouses and consider anything that regulates business "communism". These freaks have wilfully destroyed America, and they were led right into it by the disgusting pundits who run the way cons think. Small thinkers have destroyed America; ironically, these are the same freaks who shriek about illegal immigrants and cry about how nothing is made in the U.S.A. The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday issued subpoenas to the White House, Vice President Dick Cheney’s office and the Justice Department after what the panel’s chairman called “stonewalling of the worst kind” of efforts to investigate the National Security Agency’s policy of wiretapping without warrants.

I wonder if these subpoenas will be denied just like the other ones....

It may not work this time, as this subpoena is regarding a CRIME, according to law professor Jonathan Turley. (edit) ThinkProgress has more on the Bush crime family's refusal to answer the subpoenas.

Bush's attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor.

Democrats are not going to stand for Cheney's new lies about the "executive branch", Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) decided to have a vote to defund Cheney's office, since he is not part of the executive branch. The vote will be later today, look for an update on this site!!!

- Another debunked attempt to claim "OMG liberal media": On CNN's Reliable Sources, Howard Kurtz, media critic for the Washington Post, claimed that "a lot of journalists [are] contributing to political candidates and political parties, mostly Democrats." Kurtz fails to mention that, while the majority of those who give DO give to Democrats, the number who actually give at all is less than 1%, many of whom report on subjects that normally do not deal in political issues.

Why is government supposed to be WIDE open?

Our government, and the Republican Party, are clearly lying to us about 9/11. We've known this for years. However, a new poll has come out showing that 41% of Americans - an increase! - believe Saddam played a proactive role in the 9/11 attacks. That poll also shows:

- More people believe the majority of 9/11 hijackers came from Iraq, Iran, or Syria than from Saudi Arabia (45% - 20/14/11 respectively - to 43%)!!!
- Around 100 of the 1001 people surveyed, when asked who the Speaker of the House is answered "Newt Gingrich" or "Tom DeLay"!!!

Amazing how misinformation and stupidity coalesce into something quite dangerous, eh?

The side-effect of all this lying and secrecy is that many Americans - approximately one-third - are convinced that the lying and secrecy has to do with 9/11. In a sense, the Bush administration enables its critics by "working in the shadows" and spreading misinformation. Their incompetence/illicitness generates its enemies, whom they vilify as "anti-American terrorist sympathizers" and the like. Christopher Hayes of the Nation magazine writes all about this phenomenon.

The Newsweek poll above also shows that 20% of Americans still think Saddam had WMD's. To that end, the Bush administration is resisting the declassification of the Senate's report on Iraq's WMD capabilities. Why would they resist? The fear of both negative media coverage and Democrat-led congressional investigations!!!

Anyone who still believes that this administration is not subverting the Constitution, and damaging our way of life, in an effort to become de facto fascist dictators is clearly not paying attention to the millions of signs the administration is throwing at them.

Justice Kennedy, new recruit of the Sith?

Justice Anthony Kennedy has succumbed to the Dark Side of the Force. In what must have been a long and protracted fight to remain independent of the Roberthomascalito four-headed neo-con judge-beast, Kennedy has added his head to the monster to push through three decisions that defy logic and justice:

- The EPA no longer has to take responsibility to protect endangered species.
- The American people cannot claim that the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives defies the separation of church and state.
- The campaign finance laws should not restrict corporations (and, to be fair, unions) as heavily as they do regarding airing of political television ads. (Hello, even MORE attack ads, and right at the end of the election, too!)

Darth Cheney, shadow president?

So much new information about Dick Cheney "working in the shadows... on the dark side" has come out...

- The Washington Post has started a four-part series on Cheney's role in the administration. Part One and Part Two are available now; Parts Three and Four are due Tuesday and Wednesday. See ThinkProgress' synopsis of the first two days' worth. Co-author Barton Gellman had this to say: 9/11 didn't change Cheney's views; rather, he's had a greater opportunity to put them into action.

- Bush is trying to see if the Chief Executive can get away with saying he isn't part of the executive branch, either. Only Bush could think of something that retarded.

- Dana Perino proves again why she cannot hack the lying the same way past presidential spokespeople were able to. She's clearly got no idea how to answer the questions. On Friday, she even tried to dismiss this scandal as a "little bit of a non-issue." So, it's a non-issue when the executive branch breaks the law, violates the Constitution, and runs the country in the most secretive manner possible?

- Keith Olbermann debunks the White House's claim that Cheney was "specially exempted" from disclosure of classified information laws in one of Bush's executive orders.

- Cheney took advantage of Bush's "cluelessness" regarding environmental protection to take the lead in deciding what their climate change agenda should be. Anyone who's been following the beating climate change science has taken from this administration should have suspected this was the case from day one. Who is running this country - Bush or Cheney?

- Even most of the Bush lackeys at FOX News are having trouble swallowing this pill. However, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol is still on the Death Star with Darth Cheney. Hmm... Kristol is one of Cheney's PNAC buddies... so it should be no surprise that Kristol is the only one defending him. This should be more evidence that this administration has run this country from a purely ideological platform, with no concern over what is best for the American people (and the world) as a whole.

- In what should come as no surprise to anyone, Attorney General Alberto Gone-zales is not planning on looking into anything inappropriate done out of Cheney's office. Stay tuned - Henry Waxman now must investigate Gonzo's handling of the situation.

It seems like the administration's game plan for dealing with a Democratic Congress is to force them to investigate EVERYTHING in an attempt to paralyze their ability to both legislate for the country and unearth the truth about all the questions surrounding their criminal organization - I mean - administration.
